YANGON, Nov. 5 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar authorities will deploy more border guard policemen with local ethnic youths in western Rakhine state, which has recently seen attacks by armed men, official media reported Saturday.
A high-ranking official of Myanmar Police Force said that anyone aged 18 to 35 can join the police force and will be trained.
Nine policemen and five soldiers died in the violent attacks by armed on Oct. 9 on three border posts in Kyikanpyin of Maungtaw, Kotankauk of Rathedaung and Ngakhuya Office.
Islamic extremists were believed to be involved in the attacks, which were financially supported by foreign terrorist organizations, the government said.
The situation in Maungtaw is returning to normal although the dusk-to-dawn curfew is still being imposed on Maungtaw district since Oct. 10.
