SEOUL, Oct. 19 (Xinhua) -- One South Korean man was killed Wednesday as a subway started from a station in Seoul without noticing the passenger stuck between the train and the screen door separating a platform from a train.

The 36-year-old man was trapped in a space about 30 centimeters wide between the train and the automatic screen door when he was trying to get off the subway, according to local media reports.

The accident occurred at around 7:18 a.m. local time (2218 GMT on Tuesday) at Gimpo Airport station.

The passenger was dragged along some seven meters by the train and thrown to the platform through the emergency exit of the screen door as the train's driver failed to notice him stuck there.

The man was taken to a nearby hospital, but was confirmed dead about an hour later.

The screen doors have been set up in all subway stations in Seoul to prevent people from committing suicide, but the automatic doors have frequently caused accidents that led to the deaths of three people only in 2016.

An 81-year-old woman died on Feb. 3 as she was thrown out into the railway after being stuck in a train and a screen door.

A 20-year-old employee was killed on May 28 as he was trapped in the in-between space while fixing screen doors at a subway station in Seoul.
