TEHRAN, Dec. 18 (Xinhua) -- A senior Iranian security official said Monday that Iran would keep up its advisory assistance to the Syrian government until full elimination of terrorism, Tasnim news agency reported.
Iran will tap new political and security potentials to counter any terror-related threats and open a new chapter in regional cooperation, Ali Shamkhani, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), was quoted as saying.
The terrorist groups, which claim to be Islamic, but whose actions are non-Islamic, have been committing heinous crimes not only against non-Muslims but also against Muslims in the region. Iraq and Syria are among the countries gripped by terrorism, he said.
Iran, a close ally of Syria and Iraq, has played a major role in the war against terrorism in both countries.
