WASHINGTON, Dec. 17 (Xinhua) -- A dog survived a plane crash in the U.S. state of Indiana Saturday while three passengers and another dog were killed, the local authorities said.

A single-engine plane going from the state Missouri to Maryland crashed into a wooded area near Oldenburg in Franklin County Saturday night, according to a press release by Indiana State Police on Sunday.

At the crash scene, three people and a dog were found dead.

Police said a second dog survived the crash and showed up at a nearby residence. It was taken to a local veterinarian to be treated for injuries.

The Indiana police are conducting a joint investigation into the crash with the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board.
