MOSCOW, Dec. 15 (Xinhua) -- Kalashnikov Concern, the Russian defense manufacturing firm making the hugely popular Kalashnikov rifles, has finished testing its advanced AK-12 and AK-15 assault rifles for the next-generation Ratnik infantry gear, local media reported Friday.

The Ratnik is a Russian infantry combat system designed to enhance the combat effectiveness of the Russian army.

A spokesperson for the company said the tests of the new assault rifles for the Ratnik combat kits have been finished and the results would be announced soon.

The Russian Defense Ministry is considering to choose the army's main assault rifle from the AK-12, AK-15 and AEK-971 designed by Russia's V. A. Degtyarev plant, the Sputnik news agency reported.

The Russian army is expected to be fully equipped with Ratnik-2 infantry gear by 2020.
