NEW DELHI, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) -- Survey conducted by various organizations on Thursday predicted victory of India's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the local elections in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh.

According to the survey, BJP would retain Gujarat and opposition Congress will suffer a defeat in Himachal Pradesh.

The BJP has governed Gujarat for 22 years in a row.

Most exit polls predicted more than 100 seats for BJP in Gujarat, comfortably above the 92-seat majority mark in the 182-seat Assembly.

In Himachal Pradesh, BJP is projected to win more than 50 seats, way above the majority mark of 35 in the 68-seat Assembly.

Voting in Gujarat ended Thursday, while as in Himachal Pradesh, the election concluded on Nov. 9.

The counting of votes will be start on Monday and results would be announced subsequently.
