ABUJA, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) -- Nigerian police authorities on Thursday confirmed that three policemen have been dismissed from service following their involvement in drug trafficking in the country.

They were found guilty by a boardroom trial conducted by the police and immediately fired, said William Aya, a spokesman for the police in Nigeria's central state of Kogi.

Aya said the policemen were caught in the trafficking of 30 bags of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp in Kogi.

The culprits have been handed to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Nigeria's anti-narcotics police.

The police spokesman said their dismissal followed due process and that the anti-drugs police will further handle their prosecution.
