WARSAW, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- Polish President Andrzej Duda accepted the resignation of the cabinet of outgoing prime minister Beata Szydlo on Friday and designated Mateusz Morawiecki, who was deputy prime minister and finance and development minister in Szydlo's cabinet, as the new prime minister.
During the ceremony held in the Presidential Palace, the president thanked Szydlo for her efforts during her two-year term and expressed hope for good cooperation with Morawiecki.
Morawiecki, who is a former banker and emphasized he would do his utmost to contribute to Poland's welfare.
According to polish media, a vote of confidence in the new government is planned for Tuesday.
On Thursday evening, the political committee of the ruling Law and Justice party (PiS) accepted Szydlo's resignation and proposed Morawiecki's candidacy for the post.
Beata Szydlo has been serving as the prime minister of Poland since PiS won the 2015 parliamentary elections. In 2015, the party won a majority which let it govern alone. Duda is a former party member.
