NEW DELHI, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- Protests rocked Indian-controlled Kashmir Friday against the U.S. decision of recognizing disputed Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

In Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir, activists of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) took to roads in the commercial hub of Lal Chowk (red square) carrying placards and banners seeking revocation of U.S. decision and intervention of the international community in the issue.

Authorities had imposed partial restrictions in several parts of city including Nowhatta, M.R.Gunj and SafaKadal areas fearing violence.

Heavy contingents of police and paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were deployed in the three areas to enforce restrictions.

The police also did not allow the weekly congregational prayers at Jamia Masjid Srinagar.

Likewise, protest demonstrations were staged in southern town of Budgam, where hundreds of people took out a march to denounce the U.S. decision.

The protests were held after Friday afternoon congregational prayers.

Reports pouring in from several others towns of the region said people took out marches against the U.S. and Israel.
