NEW DELHI, Dec. 7 (Xinhua) -- At least four people were killed and 17 others injured Thursday after a passenger bus collided with a goods truck in northern Indian state of Punjab, police said.

The accident took place at Singhwala village in Moga district, about 185 km west of Chandigarh, the capital city of Punjab.

"Today a private sleeper bus carrying passengers rammed into a truck near the national power grid at Singhwala village on the Moga-Kotkapura road here, killing four people and injuring 17 others," a police official said.

Preliminary investigation revealed the ill-fated bus coming from Jaipur (Rajasthan) and was on its way to Jammu city of Indian-controlled Kashmir.

The injured were immediately taken to medical facility at Moga.

Police have registered a case and ordered investigations to ascertain the cause of accident.

"The exact cause of the accident is being ascertained," the police official said. "It is believed foggy weather conditions prevalent in the area could be one of the reasons behind the collision."
