BEIJING -- Chinese stocks closed mixed on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.29 percent, at 3,293.96 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.52 percent higher at 10,911.33 points. The ChiNext Index, which tracks China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 1.46 percent to close at 1,784.31 points.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed down 618.00 points, or 2.14 percent, to 28,224.8 points on Wednesday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 28,204.53 and 28,929.21. Turnover totaled 162.70 billion Hong Kong dollars (about 20.82 billion U.S. dollars).

MUMBAI -- Indian markets closed lower Wednesday as equity benchmarks extended losses in late trade dragged by banking & financials after the Reserve Bank kept repo rate unchanged.

The benchmark S&P BSE Sensex closed at 32,597.18, down 205.26 points or 0.63 percent compared to its previous close at 32,802.44.

JAKARTA -- Indonesian shares closed higher by 35.03 points, or 0.58 percent, to a level of 6,035.60 on Wednesday.

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended lower here on Wednesday.

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX-Index, closed at 113.37 points on Wednesday, up 0.14 points or 0.12 percent against the previous trading session.

Over 70.784 million shares worth some 905.721 billion Vietnamese dong (some 40.4 million U.S. dollars) were traded at the Hanoi Stock Exchange on Wednesday, a decrease of 9 percent in volume and 17.1 percent in value against the previous trading session.

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City bourse in south Vietnam, closed at 947.64 points on Wednesday, down 5.66 points, or 0.59 percent, against the previous trading day's closing session.

About 243.461 million shares worth 6.170 trillion Vietnamese dong (VND) (274.95 million U.S. dollars) changed hands at the southern HCM City Stock Exchange. Prices of 110 stocks went up, 172 stocks fell down, while 44 stocks remained unchanged.
