VIENNA, Dec. 1 (Xinhua) -- The trend toward declining unemployment in Austria has maintained its course through November with a 5.7 percent year-on-year drop, the Public Employment Service Austria (AMS) said on Friday.

This means there are now some 405,000 people in the country registered as being without work.

As a result the total unemployment rate as measured by Austria's own calculation method fell 0.8 percent to a total 8.2 percent.

Notable in the November figures was an improvement in the situation for the long-term unemployed, defined as those being jobless for 12 months or longer. A problem area for a protracted period of time, its numbers saw a decrease of 2.8 percent, to some 56,000 people.

A strong 17.1 percent decline in unemployment was also seen for the youth bracket, defined as persons aged 15 to 24 years. Enditem
