HONG KONG, Dec. 1 (Xinhua) -- Chief Executive of China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor and visiting Philippine Foreign Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano on Friday discussed issues of cooperation and Filipino domestic helpers in Hong Kong.

During the meeting, Lam welcomed Cayetano's visit to the Hong Kong SAR and congratulated the Philippines on the successful hosting of the 31st Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit last month.

She also thanked the Philippines' support on the signing of the Hong Kong-ASEAN Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and a related Investment Agreement during the ASEAN summit, which she believed would take cooperation between the Hong Kong SAR and ASEAN to new heights.

Lam mentioned that the HKSAR government is committed to promoting two-way investments whereby Hong Kong enterprises will be encouraged to seek investment opportunities in the Philippines and other ASEAN countries, boosting not only the local economy but also the development of professional services in Hong Kong.

On the issue of Filipino domestic helpers in Hong Kong, she said currently around 200,000 Filipino domestic helpers in Hong Kong are making substantial contribution to Hong Kong's families and economy.

The HKSAR government is keen to protect the rights and benefits of the domestic helpers in Hong Kong, so that they will enjoy working and living in the SAR, she said.
