TEHRAN, Dec. 1 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake measuring 6.0 magnitude hit Iran's southeast town of Hejadk on Friday, injuring 52 people, Iran's state TV reported.
The quake hit some 58 km northeast of Kerman city in Kerman province, with a shallow depth of 10 km.
The tremor affected more than a dozen villages and destroyed 30 homes. It disrupted water flow and electricity in the region.
"Assessment teams are surveying the quake-stricken areas and villages in Kerman province," Mohammad-Reza Mir-Sadeqi, Governor of Kerman's Ravar County, was quoted as saying.
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has ordered Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli to take proper measures aimed at speeding up relief and rescue operations.
The Iranian army has also voiced readiness to provide necessary help to the operations.
On Nov. 12, a strong earthquake measuring 7.3 magnitude hit Iran-Iraq border area, leaving more than 470 people killed, over 9,000 others injured and 16,000 houses damaged.
The deadliest quake in Iran's modern history happened in June 1990, destroying several cities and hundreds of villages in northern Iran, killing an estimated 37,000 people.
Bam, also in Kerman Province, witnessed a strong quake in December 2003 which killed 31,000 people.
