British army contingent to conduct joint military exercise with Indian counterparts

NEW DELHI, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) -- A contingent of British army personnel arrived in India to take part in joint military exercise with the Indian army, officials said Thursday.

The two-week long exercise would begin from Friday.

The British army contingent arrived in Jaipur, the capital city of western Indian state of Rajasthan on Wednesday.

"A 14-day-long combined military exercise between India and the UK (Britain), Ajeya Warrior-2017 will begin from tomorrow in the Mahajan Field Firing Range near Bikaner in Rajasthan," a defense army spokesperson said.

Indian Defense spokesperson Col. Manish Ojha told state-run broadcaster All India Radio (AIR) that about 120 personnel from both armies will participate in the exercise.

Media reports said this would be the third joint military exercise between the two countries.

Officials said the exercise will provide field commanders and troops from both countries, an opportunity to interact with each other in professional, social and cultural matters.
