BEIJING, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- A total of 35 Internet game operators were punished for operating games with prohibited content, such as violence and pornography, said the Ministry of Culture on Wednesday.

The game operators had their illegal revenue confiscated and were fined, said a ministry statement.

One operator, based in southwest China's Sichuan Province, had its license withdrawn for operating a gambling game, while another in east China's Zhejiang Province, which also ran a gambling game, was forced to suspend its business for two months until it corrects the wrongdoings, the statement said.

Besides the 35 firms, six other game operators were punished for using prohibited content in promotion of their games.

The ministry also plans to randomly sample 50 out of mobile phone games in the market and place them under complete inspection, the statement said.
