KHARTOUM, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- A United Nations (UN) official has said the UN is closely working with Sudanese government to enhance children's rights and ensure children's protection against violation or exploitation in armed conflict.
Chairman of the UN Security Council Working Group on Children and Armed Conflict, Olof Skoog, on Tuesday held talks with local authorities in Sudan's North Darfur State.
Skoog said that the UN working group's visit to Darfur region aims to ensure protection of children against recruitment, abuse, violence and exploitation.
He reiterated the UN's keenness to protect children's rights, prevent their recruitment and violation of their rights, and ensure that they receive their rights in the educational, health and service institutions.
In March 2016, the Sudanese government signed with the UN the Action Plan for the Protection of Children from Violations in Armed Conflict.
The plan sets out a series of measures to enhance the overall protection of children affected by armed conflict, including the cessation and prevention of child recruitment.
Sudanese government has been fighting the Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM)/northern sector at Blue Nile and South Kordofan areas since 2011. It has also been fighting armed groups in Darfur region since 2003.
