HELSINKI, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- The Finnish Border Guard announced on Tuesday that they had found a drone allegedly carrying cigarettes from Russia to Finland.

The drone was found in a forested area of Lappeenranta, some 30 kilometers from the Russian border, with a package of 15 cartons of cigarettes. Two other packages were found in the same area. A total of 45 cartons of cigarettes were seized, said the Border Guard.

The authority investigated the case in cooperation with the Finnish Customs. Based on the pre-trial investigation, it was suspected that drone had been used to smuggle cigarettes from Russia to Finland. However, the people involved in the crime were not found yet.

The Border Guard said that it was the first time that an unmanned aircraft used for smuggling was found over the eastern border of Finland.

The case was investigated as airspace violation and illegal entry.
