Macao's merchandise export up 6.1 pct in October

MACAO, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- The total value of merchandise export of China's Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) grew 6.1 percent in October year-on-year, and total value of merchandise import went up 3.6 percent, the SAR's statistics department said on Tuesday.

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the total merchandise export for October amounted to 806 million patacas. The value of re-exports (686 million patacas) increased by 11.0 percent, with that of optical instruments surging by 618.1 percent.

Meanwhile, the value of domestic exports (120 million patacas) slid by 15.1 percent, with that of glass and glassware falling by 88.4 percent.

The total value of merchandise import rose by 3.6 percent year-on-year to 6.25 billion patacas, of which imports of motor cars and motorcycles, and handbags and wallets expanded by 56.1 percent and 48.8 percent respectively. Merchandise trade deficit in October amounted to 5.44 billion patacas.

From January to October 2017, the total value of merchandise export increased by 10.3 percent year-on-year to 9.37 billion patacas, and the total value of merchandise import went up by 4.7 percent year-on-year to 60.50 billion patacas.

Merchandise trade deficit widened to 51.13 billion patacas for the first 10 months this year. (1 U.S. dollar equals to 8.03 patacas)
