ACCRA, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) -- Ghana's First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo has secured an exchange program for Ghanaian school children to visit, beginning next year, her office said in a release on Monday.

The agreement was reached between the Ghanaian First Lady's Foundation and the Licang District Experimental School in Qingdao, China, as part of her eight-day visit to China.

It was signed on behalf of the Rebecca Foundation by Shirley Laryea from the Office of the First Lady while Wang Xiaoguang, Director General, Education and Sports Bureau of the Licang District, also initialed for the school.

The program seeks to deepen cultural, academic and sports ties between pupils of the two countries and will see 10 pupils from the Licang Experimental school visiting Ghana while 10 Ghanaian pupils will also travel to China every year.

The children are expected to gain a lot, especially in the area of sports, as the pupils from China will be trained in Ghana's favorite sporting disciplines, especially soccer, under the agreement, while Ghanaian pupils visiting China will also be taught various sports including table tennis.

Akufo-Addo commended the people of China for their sense of discipline. She said the exchange program would help impact some of the Chinese values in the participating Ghanaian children.

Kwesi Yankah, a deputy Minister for Education, who accompanied the First Lady's team to China, said through the power of sports, the children who will be participating in the exchange program will be able to make friends to deepen cultural relations among citizens of the two countries.
