DUBAI, Nov. 24 (Xinhua) -- The United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Friday strongly condemned the terrorist attack on a mosque in Egypt's North Sinai, which killed at least 235 people, local media reported.

"The UAE strongly condemns this terrorist crime, which is contrary to all human values and principles, the teachings of Islamic law and divine religions," the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in Abu Dhabi said in a statement.

It reveals the "falsity of the claims of extremist groups wearing the cloak of religion to justify their barbarous acts, while Islam is innocent," the ministry noted.

The UAE, while expressing its deep condemnation of this "criminal act" and its permanent rejection of all forms of violence and terrorism, "reaffirms its solidarity and strong support" for Egypt, the statement added.

"Such cowardly crime will not undermine the will of the people of Egypt and its insistence on continuing to address completely terrorism that has no homeland, no religion or morals," the ministry stressed.

The UAE also expressed condolences to the families of those killed and injured, the government and the people of Egypt, and wished all people injured in the attack a speedy recovery.

The President's office in Egypt has ordered a three-day mourning period following the terrorist attack.
