BRUSSELS, Nov. 24 (Xinhua) -- NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and Latvian President Raimonds Vejonis discussed Baltic security in Brussels on Friday.

According to NATO's press release, NATO's continued adaptation to meet current security challenges and preparations for NATO's 2018 Summit topped the agenda in their talks.

In light of the Ukraine crisis, NATO has deployed four multinational battlegroups to the Baltic States and Poland and increased air and naval patrols in the Baltic region.

During the discussion, Stoltenberg welcomed the decision by Latvia's parliament to strengthen national defense, including by increasing defense spending to 2 percent of gross domestic product (GDP) by 2018.

He also thanked Latvia for its contributions to NATO's training mission in Afghanistan and for its support to NATO partners Georgia and Ukraine.

Vejonis was paying a working visit to Brussels to attend the European Union's Eastern Partnership Summit.
