ISLAMABAD, Nov. 24 (Xinhua) -- Local police confirmed that a blast which killed two police personnel, including a high-ranked officer, in Pakistan's northwestern provincial capital of Peshawar on Friday was a suicide attack.

Tahir Khan, chief of Peshawar city police, said a suicide bomber rammed his explosive-laden motorcycle into a police vehicle near the Tatara Park in the Hayatabad area of Peshawar in the country's northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

At least six other persons, including four police personnel, were also injured in the attack.

Additional Inspector General of Police Muhammad Ashraf Noor and his bodyguard lost their lives in the attack. Noor was on his way to his office when his convoy was attacked. His vehicle was completely destroyed, while another vehicle of his squad was partially damaged in the attack.

Following the attack, police and rescue team rushed to the site and shifted the bodies and injured to the Hayatabad Medical Complex hospital in the city.

No group has claimed the attack yet.

Friday's attack is the third strike at police officers in Pakistan in November. Earlier this month, at least two police officers were killed by terrorists in the country's southwest provincial capital of Quetta.

Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi strongly condemned the suicide bombing in Peshawar. He lauded the sacrifices of police personnel in the fight against terrorism, saying such dastardly acts of the militants can not deter Pakistan's law-enforcement agencies and the nation in taking the fight against terrorism.

"Our resolve to eradicate the menace of terrorism cannot be shaken," said the prime minister.
