TORONTO, Nov. 23 (Xinhua) -- Canada's main stock index edged up Thursday due to higher oil and base metals prices.
The Toronto Stock Exchange's benchmark S&P/TSX Composite Index gained 0.72 point to end the day at 16,074.30.
The energy sector rose 0.3 percent as U.S. crude oil hit a two-year high with pipeline operator Enbridge Inc rising 1.1 percent to 47.53 Canadian dollars.
The materials sector, including precious and base metals miners and fertilizer companies, climbed 0.5 percent as copper prices rose for a fifth day.
However, the financials sector slipped 0.2 percent.
