HONG KONG, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- Hong Kong's overall consumer prices rose 1.5 percent year-on-year in October, slightly larger than the 1.4 percent increase in September, the Census and Statistics Department said here Tuesday.
A spokesman for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government said consumer price inflation stayed fairly modest in October.
Looking ahead, considering the slow increases in import prices and moderate local cost pressure, inflation risks should remain limited in the near term, the spokesman added.
According to the data, prices for food rose 3.3 percent last month, followed by housing 2.4 percent, miscellaneous goods 0.6 percent and electricity, gas and water 0.2 percent.
On the other hand, prices for durable goods decreased 2.9 percent, followed by alcoholic drinks and tobacco 1.3 percent, clothing and footwear 0.5 percent and miscellaneous services 0.4 percent.
