Spanish director of public prosecution dies in Argentina

MADRID, Nov. 18 (Xinhua) -- Spanish Director of Public Prosecutions Jose Manuel Maza Martin died unexpectedly on Saturday in the Argentinean capital of Buenos Aires, Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy confirmed.

The 66-year-old died of a suspected kidney infection in a clinic where he had been taken after feeling ill during the Assembly of Iberian-American Public Ministers in the Argentinean capital.

Maza, who suffered from diabetes, is the first public prosecutor to die in office.

"The Director of Public Prosecutions, Jose Manuel Maza Martin, has died. My recognition and thanks for a life of work in the service of the state. My deepest condolences to his family, friends and colleagues. Rest in Peace. MR," wrote Rajoy in a tweet confirming his death.
