TOKYO, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks rose Friday morning tracking overnight advances of U.S. and European equities, but gains were capped by the yen's appreciation against the U.S. dollar.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 53.73 points, or 0.24 percent, from Thursday to 22,404.85.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 1.59 points, or 0.09 percent, to 1,763.30.
Oil and coal product, rubber product and metal product-related stocks comprised those that advanced the most by the morning break.
