PARIS, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- The unemployment rate in France rose to 9.4 percent in the third quarter of 2017, up 0.2 percent from the second quarter, French national statistical agency Insee said Thursday.
Over the period, the number of unemployed people increased by 62,000 to 2.7 million, Insee data showed.
Taking into account overseas departments, the quarterly jobless rate grew by 0.2 percent to stand at 9.7 percent.
Insee said joblessness rose among people aged between 25 and 49 years and elderly job seekers. The jobless rate in the two age groups increased by 0.4 percent and 0.1 percent respectively. Meanwhile, youth recorded a 0.7-percent fall in jobless claims.
To keep his promise to bring down unemployment, French President Emmanuel Macron said his government was putting up 15 billion euros (17.65 billion U.S. dollars) to bolster training for job. Macron targets to lower the joblessness rate to 7 percent by 2022.
