NICOSIA, Nov. 14 (Xinhua) -- Turkish F-16 fighter planes repeatedly violated Cyprus' airspace, an air control official claimed on Tuesday.
Haris Antoniades, director of Nicosia Area Control Center at the Department of Civil Aviation of Cyprus, told the state radio that Turkish planes made repeated passes inside the Cypriot airspace and then landed at an airport in the Turkish occupied part of Cyprus.
The Turkish side has yet to respond to such a claim.
Turkey and nationalist Turkish Cypriot leaders declared the occupied part of Cyprus into a state on November 15, 1983.
Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci, in a message to Turkish Cypriots Tuesday afternoon to mark the declaration anniversary, suggested that either Guterres himself or a high UN official probe the possibility of a framework agreement on the security issue.
Akinci said that after such an agreement a new conference on Cyprus could be called, which will have a fixed duration and will not drag on in the fashion of previous negotiations.
Negotiations aimed at ending Cyprus's partition and the re-integration of Turkish Cypriots ended abruptly in July after the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said the two sides failed to agree on security arrangements after a solution.
