BUCHAREST, Nov. 14 (Xinhua) -- Two South Americans were found smuggling some two kilograms of cocaine ingested in their stomachs at the Henri Coanda Airport in northern Bucharest, announced the Romanian anti-drug authorities on Tuesday.

A man and a woman, believed to be Brazilian citizens, arrived at the airport in Bucharest on Friday afternoon, traveling from the Brazilian city Sao Paolo to Bucharest via the Swiss city of Zurich, according to a statement released by the Romanian Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT).

As they were suspected of carrying forbidden substances, the two were subjected to an X-ray check which revealed the drugs in their stomachs, according to the statement.

The two, Rodrigues Gomes Verice and Lourenco Da Silva Weslley, were detained for committing the offenses of high risk drug trafficking and international high risk drug trafficking, according to the DIICOT.

Rodrigues Gomes Verice eliminated as many as 114 capsules containing 1,537 grams of cocaine, while Lourenco Da Silva Weslley discarded 43 white capsules, totalizing 426.4 grams of cocaine, it said.

The two admitted in the investigation that they planed to take the drugs to the Turkish city of Istanbul by coach.

Romania is targeted by international drug trafficking gangs due to its geographical location.
