Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering dismissed amid graft probe

BEIJING, Nov. 14 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) on Tuesday decided to remove Meng Wei, an environmental expert, from its academician list.

Meng, who was elected as a CAE academician in 2009 and specializes in water pollution control, has been under investigation for "serious discipline violations," according to a CAE press release.

Born in 1956, Meng is vice-chairman of the Environmental Protection and Resources Conservation Committee of the National People's Congress and former head of the Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences.
