TRIPOLI, Nov. 13 (Xinhua) -- A Libyan official on Monday said that IS has set up a checkpoint near its former stronghold in the Libyan city of Sirte, local media reported.
Chairman of the Security Committee of Sirte, Zarroug Sweti, said that IS members set up a checkpoint on Monday just 20 kilometers south Bohadi area in the city of Sirte.
"The terrorists are stationed in rugged valley areas, some 80 kilometers south of Bohadi," Sweti told local media on Monday.
IS affiliates in December 2015 were defeated and expelled from Sirte, some 450 km east the capital Tripoli, by forces allied with the UN-backed government, backed by US air force.
"IS members also searched cars of civilians passing by," Sweti added, pointing out that Sirte's security force "rushed to the area immediately after receiving information about presence of terrorists. However, the terrorists had fled."
"IS affiliates attack shops south of the area of Bohadi from time to time and establish checkpoints on the main road," Sweti said.
IS fighters attacked an army checkpoint in southern Libya on August, killing several army soldiers.
