KANDAHAR, Afghanistan, Nov. 13 (Xinhua) -- At least five people were dead and 37 others wounded in a traffic incident in Afghanistan's southern province of Kandahar on Monday, a provincial government spokesman said.

"The incident happened early Monday morning on Kandahar-Herat highway where a long-distance bus belonging to Ahmad Shah Abdali Transport Company veered off the road and fell down in a ditch, leaving five people dead and some 37 others wounded," Spokesman Qudratullah Khoshbakht told Xinhua.

The deadly accident occurred in Zhari district, west of provincial capital Kandahar city, and the victims were shifted to a main hospital in the city where over a dozen of them remained in critical condition, the source added.

Poor road condition and drivers' recklessness are mostly behind tragic traffic incidents in some Afghan provinces.
