United States beats Belarus to win Fed Cup title

MINSK, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) -- The United States won the Fed Cup title with a 3-2 win against Belarus on Sunday in Minsk.

The second day of the final match in the Chizhovka Arena started with a match between Aryna Sabalenka, ranked 78th in the world, and Koko Vandeweghe, ranked 10th in the world. The American beat Sabalenka 7-6 (5), 6-1 to give the U.S. a 2-1 lead.

Aliaksandra Sasnovich, ranked 87th in the world, kept Belarus alive after beating U.S. Open champion Sloane Stephens, ranked 13th in the world, 4-6, 6-1, 8-6 to leave the final level at 2-2.

In the deciding doubles of the 2017 final Vandeweghe/Rogers beat Sabalenka/Sasnovich 6-3, 7-6 (3).

Earlier on Saturday, Vandeweghe defeated Sasnovich in straight sets 6-4, 6-4, while Sabalenka overcame Stephens 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.
