2 Iranians die in major earthquake in Iran-Iraq border area

TEHRAN, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) -- At least two people died and 25 injured in the powerful earthquake, measuring at 7.2 magnitude, that hit Iraq-Iran border area on Sunday, state IRIB TV reported.

The quake which centered at 103 km southeast of the city of Sulaymaniyah, Iraq, was felt in several Iranian provinces bordering Iraq.

Over 20 Iranian villages in the area have been damaged and the power and water flow have been disrupted.

Iranian emergency teams have been dispatched to the quake-hit region and the helicopters have delivered the basic need of the people suffered from the quake.

Local media's reports on the earthquake's magnitude vary from 4.5 to 7.3, which centered at 103 km southeast of the city of Sulaymaniyah, Iraq.
