MOGADISHU, Nov. 9 (Xinhua) -- Somali forces killed three Al-Shabaab militants and injured four others in an ongoing military operation in Middle Shabelle region of southern region on Thursday.
Somali National Army (SNA) commander General Abdullahi Ali Anod said the forces have intensified military operations in Middle and Lower Shabelle regions where the militants have increased their presence recently in order to collect "levy" from farmers.
"Somali National Army killed three terrorists and wounded four others in today's operation this morning, the operation aims to flush out Al-Shabaab militants from over the country," Anod said.
He did not tell whether there were casualties on SNA side. Al-Shabaab militants did not comment on the latest military gains by the Somali National Army.
The latest killings come after Somalia and Africa Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) launched a massive security operation to flush out Al-Shabaab militants in Middle Shabelle region.
