Bangladesh July-October export income reaches 11.51 bln USD

DHAKA, Nov. 9 (Xinhua) -- Bangladesh's export earning in the first four months of the current 2017-18 fiscal year (July 2017- June 2018) grew 7.03 percent year on year to 11.51 billion U.S. dollars, an official said Thursday.

The Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) official told Xinhua that the pace of growth of July-October merchandise exports edged down following dull performance of the major ready-made garment export sector. "July-October exports reached 11,505.80 million U.S. dollars," he said.

Of total earnings, the EPB official who did not like to be named said Bangladesh's income from ready-made garment items including knitwear and woven stood at 9.44 billion U.S. dollars during July-October period of the current fiscal year.

In July-October period of the current 2017-18 fiscal year, knitwear garment export grew 9.95 percent to 4,986.20 million U.S. dollars while woven garments increased 3.85 percent to 4,451.53 million U.S. dollars, comparing with the same period of last fiscal (July 2016-June 2017). According to the official, the country's export earnings in October grew 6.42 percent year on year to 2.84 billion U.S. dollars.

Bangladesh's export earning in the first quarter of the current 2017-18 fiscal year grew 7.23 percent year on year to 8.66 billion U.S. dollars. Export income in the first two months of the current fiscal year grew about 14 percent to 6.64 billion U.S. dollars. Bangladesh set its export target in 2017-18 fiscal year at 37.50 billion dollars, including 30.16 billion dollars from ready-made garment products.
