ZAGREB, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- Prominent Croatian businessman Ivica Todoric was released on a 100,000-pound (131,300 U.S dollar) bail in London on Tuesday evening, Croatian media reported on Wednesday.
The British judge said the next hearing on Todoric's possible extradition to Croatia wouldn't take place until April 10, 2018, arguing it was a very complicated case.
He was arrested earlier on Tuesday after turning himself into British police.
Croatian authorities suspect Todoric, the founder and owner of Agrokor, the biggest retail chain in the region, of corruption, forgery of administrative documents, and fraud.
Zagreb county court spokesman Kresimir Devcic said Wednesday to N1 television that the framework decision on a European arrest warrant set a 60-day deadline to decide on Todoric's extradition. He didn't want to comment on why the British court set the next hearing for April 2018, and not in the next two months.
"Todoric is still unavailable to us," Devcic said.
In his latest blog post, Todoric wrote that he was in London because his human rights were being seriously violated.
"I will not allow being imposed by a political decree and without a trial. They will not silence me because my speech obviously affects those who took my property," Todoric wrote.
Agrokor was hit by a debt crisis early this year, at which time the Croatian government took over the management of the company and revealed murky dealings and hidden debts.
Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic said on Tuesday evening it was important that the Croatian bodies which requested Todoric's extradition get explanations from the UK about their actions. Enditem (1 pound = 1.31 U.S. dollars)
