BUDAPEST, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- The management of the Hungarian Operetta Theater fired Miklos Gabor Kerenyi, the theater's artistic director, here on Tuesday with immediate effect, after an actor of the theater said he had been abused by him back in 1994.

"The management of the Hungarian Operetta Theater has dismissed artistic director Miklos Gabor Kerenyi, who demanded his retirement, with immediate effect, following the specific event surfaced on Monday evening," the theater announced on its official site.

Actor Akos Maros declared on ATV television Monday night that Kerenyi locked him in a room and beat him on the bare buttocks with a coat hanger. Maros was only 18 years old then.

Kerenyi posted an apology Tuesday on his Facebook page but did not deny the accusations.

He is the second well-known theater director to be dismissed in Hungary recently because of allegations of abuse or sexual harassment. On October 27, director of Vigszinhaz, Laszlo Marton, was sacked after several accusations from women.
