One Saudi policeman shot dead in restive Qatif region

RIYADH, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) -- One Saudi Arabian policeman was shot dead on Monday afternoon in the Qatif region in the Eastern Province, Al Arabiya local news reported.

The dead was a 25-year-old security personnel. The shooting occurred after a period of calmness in the disturbed Qatif region which has witnessed many similar attacks in recent years.

The decline in violence could be attributed to the demolishing of deserted old houses in Awamiya areas in the region that were taken as shelters by terrorists.

They are violent Shiite youths who demand more rights in the Sunni conservative state.
