KUWAIT CITY, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- The Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah received on Saturday a phone call from Lebanese President Michel Aoun about postponing a visit to Kuwait due to the political situation in Lebanon, the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) reported.

Aoun explained to the emir that the situation required his personal presence and wished Kuwait and its people sustainable progress under the leadership of the emir, KUNA said.

The emir said he understood the circumstances and wished Lebanon would overcome them, adding that Aoun is welcomed to visit Kuwait at any convenient time.

In an unexpected televised statement on Saturday, Lebanon's Prime Minister Saad Hariri announced his resignation.

The Lebanese president's visit was scheduled on Sunday.
