TEHRAN, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- At least eight Iranian border guards were killed in the clashes on Friday night with the rebels in the country's northwestern Azerbaijan Province, Tehran Times daily reported on Saturday.

"The terrorists sustained heavy losses during the clashes which are still ongoing on the border with Turkey," the official said.

The Chaldoran border, around 860 km northwest of the capital Tehran, is near neighboring Turkey and Iraq's borders.
