NAIROBI, Nov. 2 (Xinhua) -- The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) on Thursday called off the planned Nov. 14 friendly against Zambia.
FKF said Zambia would not be able to fly to Kenya in time for the friendly, adding they would look for another country to take the place of the 2012 African champions.
"It's unfortunate that Zambia will not be able to honor the friendly due to what we have understood to be logistical issues around the team's travel," said FKF CEO Robert Muthomi in a statement issued in Nairobi.
"As such we have been forced to cancel the friendly and are already looking elsewhere for an alternative," he added.
The Zambia game was mooted after Kenya's initial opponents in the latest FIFA window, Rwanda pulled out due to their participation in a 2018 Africa Home Nations Championships (CHAN) play-off with Ethiopia after Egypt withdrew from the second-tier continental showpiece.
Stars head coach Stanley Okumbi called up 28 locally based players to report to training camp on Wednesday and the squad will assemble as scheduled as FKF shops desperately for another team to take on during the forthcoming FIFA International week.
Stars and beleaguered Okumbi, will be seeking to return to winning ways after losing their last friendlies to Iraq and Thailand in the last FIFA International week that ramped pressure on the head coach to quit.
Following the defeats, Kenya slumped to position 102 in the last FIFA World rankings. CAF stripped Kenya the rights to host CHAN that will now be played in Morocco.
