Chinese stocks close lower Thursday

BEIJING, Nov. 2 (Xinhua) -- Chinese shares closed lower on Thursday, weighed down by weak performances in most sectors.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index was down 0.37 percent to close at 3,383.31 points, while the Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.51 percent lower at 11,292.42 points.

Combined turnover on the two bourses shrank to 470 billion yuan (about 71 billion U.S. dollars) from 481.84 billion yuan the previous trading day.

The ChiNext Index, which tracks China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, lost 1.35 percent to close at 1,847.56 points.

Shares in plane manufacturing and paper making led the decline, with the Aerospace Hi-tech Holding Group Co. Ltd down 3.14 percent.

Shares in steel, electricity and oil refinery also saw loss on Thursday's trading.

Bucking the trend, shares in liquor makers gained, with shares of Kweichow Moutai and Luzhou Laojiao Co., Ltd up 0.63 percent and 4.88 percent, respectively.

Shares related to the banking and coal mining also saw a gain. Qinghai Jinrui Mineral Development Co., Ltd. saw its stocks rising by 7.25 percent.
