CHICAGO, Nov. 1 (Xinhua) -- Police in the U.S. state of Wisconsin are warning residents of various types of trick-or-treating candy found with needles in them in Halloween celebration.

Wisc-TV reported on Wednesday that local police in cities of Arcadia and Neenah received reports from parents about the incidents, which appeared to be isolated.

The needles looked like sewing needles, said police. They were not visibly seen until the candy was opened and broken in half.

Officials are now reminding parents to check their children's candy thoroughly before allowing them to eat it.

It is unclear who planted the needles in the candy. Police have submitted the candy to crime lab for testing.

"Trick-or-treat" is a Halloween custom for children to travel from house to house, asking for candy.
