RIO DE JANEIRO, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- The number of murders registered in Brazil in 2016 reached a record high of 61,600, an official report said Monday.
The murder rate was 29.9 per 100,000 people in Brazil last year, according to the Brazilian Public Security Annual Report released earlier in the day.
The report said the number of murders in 2016 was 3.8 percent higher than that of 2015, with Rio de Janeiro state registering the highest number of murders in the country.
The report also featured high figures related to crimes against women. In 2016, 4,657 women were murdered in Brazil.
