1 killed, 3 injured in festive hot air balloon flaming in Myanmar

YANGON, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- One local people has been killed on the spot with three others injured in a fire caused by flaming hot air balloon to celebrate Myanmar's Tazaungdaing lighting festival in Myanmar's Shan state, the Ministry of Home Affairs said Monday.

The injured were brought to Sao Sun Htun Hospital in Taunggyi, the capital of the state.

The town's well-known Tazaungdaing Festival, also known as the Festival of Lights which falls on the day of full moon in the eighth month according to the Myanmar calendar, is celebrated as a public holiday in Myanmar and marks the end of the rain season.

People usually fly sky lanterns and launch firework competition as part of celebrating the festival.

The flaming of hot air balloon also played part of the upcoming famous fire balloon competition to mark the full moon day of Tazaungdaing.
