YANGON, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar is planning to turn Htanmanthi Wildlife Sanctuary in northwestern Sagaing region into an eco-tourism destination, the Myanmar-language Myawaddy Daily quoted an official of the sanctuary as reporting Monday.

Lying between Khamti and Homalin townships, the Htanmanthi Wildlife Sanctuary is home to a wide variety of biodiversity and rare species of animals including tigers, elephants and bears.

Diverse range of culture, tradition and lifestyle of ethnic people including Shanni, Naga and chin are also attraction for visitors.

Infrastructure development plan including construction of transport facilities is being implemented in the area for the transformation, the official said.

The 214,650 hectares' wildlife reserve, established in 1974, is a natural habitat of gaur, wild pigs, mountain goats, deer, monkey and birds.

Myanmar is making efforts to develop eco-tourism and explore prospects for nature tourism sites in the forest.
