BARCELONA, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- Carles Puigdemont, president of the regional government of Catalonia, Generalitat, will call for early regional elections, Spanish news agency EFE reported on Thursday.
Puigdemont is set to appear at 1:30 p.m.local time (1130 GTM) to call for early elections, EFE reported, citing sources of the Generalitat. Members of the regional government have been in a meeting in the morning along with MPs of the pro-independence party Junts pel Si.
Meanwhile, the Spanish senate is set to meet on Thursday afternoon to discuss the application of Article 155 of the Spanish constitution which would see Catalonia's regional government sacked and the central government take control of some of the region's key institutions.
