ALGIERS, Oct. 25 (Xinhua) -- Maintenance staff with the Algerian state-run airline Air Algerie have launched an "unlimited" strike, forcing the company to cancel several domestic and international flights.

The aircraft maintenance engineers and workers are claiming the revision of the professional classification grid and wages in accordance with the provisions of the collective agreement, Head of the Algerian Union of Aircraft Maintenance Technicians, Ahmed Boutoumi, was quoted as saying by APS news agency on Wednesday.

Boutoumi further specified that the strike is maintained all across the airports of Algeria until their claims are met.

CEO of Air Algerie, Bekhouche Allache, said the strike is "illegal," as it was launched without any prior notice.

Allache further noted that all flights scheduled for Tuesday afternoon took off normally without any disruption.

The maintenance staff launched a similar strike in May, as they forced the company to cancel and delay several flights. The strike was suspended after the company's general management promised to meet the demands of the maintenance staff.
